Sky Sports understands that Fabio Wardley’s side are disappointed with the refereeing of Saturday’s game against Daniel Dubois.

Wardley floored Dubois twice in the early rounds, but was ultimately stopped in the 11th round of a brutal WBO world heavyweight title fight in Manchester.

The Ipswich boxer suffered facial injuries during the fight and his team believes referee Howard Foster should have taken stronger action against Dubois for repeated illegal blows.

Andy Scott has explained why he is “disappointed” with the officiating after an “illegal hit” in Fabio Wardley’s team’s loss to Daniel Dubois.

Mr Wardley’s extensive and visible injuries are believed to have occurred after he received repeated unlawful blows, including multiple headbutts.

His team also wants an explanation for why Foster stopped the fight shortly after Wardley hurt Dubois late in the seventh round.

The British Boxing Board of Control told Sky Sports News: “The BBBC has not received the complaint on Mr Wardley’s behalf and will of course consider the matter if it does receive it. However, contests and boxing will be discussed at this week’s board meeting as is normal procedure.”

Wardley may decide to force an immediate rematch with Dubois after suffering the first loss of his professional career.

Daniel Dubois had nothing but praise for Fabio Wardley after his sensational fight for the WBO heavyweight belt at Manchester’s Coop Live Arena.

Promoter Frank Warren confirmed that a rematch clause had been inserted into the fight contract, meaning Wardley could trigger a return match.

Asked about the possibility of a rematch, Warren told Sky Sports: “It’s up to them. It’s up to the fighters.”

“I’d like to push for a rematch, but I’d like to see them get a really good rest and recharge their batteries and stuff before that.”
