Fabio Wardley has activated his immediate rematch clause with Daniel Dubois.
Wardley defeated Dubois twice in the early rounds of their bout in Manchester on Saturday night, but the Ipswich boxer lost his WBO heavyweight title with an 11th round stoppage.
Promoter Frank Warren confirmed to Sky Sports that there was a rematch clause in place and that Wardley had pushed for a return fight against Dubois, scheduled for later this year.
Warren described Wardley vs. Dubois as “the best heavyweight fight I’ve ever fought”, with the defeated champion vowing to put up another epic battle with his British rival in a rematch.
The 31-year-old is even more motivated and focused to avenge Dubois, telling Sky Sports: “The boxing world knows my character and Saturday night proved that beyond a shadow of a doubt.
“It’s been a long fight, but I made some mistakes and I’m going to make amends in the rematch. Congratulations, Daniel. But I’m here for you…and for the belt!”
Promoter Queensberry said: “Fabio Wardley has activated his rematch clause following his defeat in his WBO world title fight against Daniel Dubois at Manchester’s Coop Live last week.
“All parties will now work towards a rematch with the Player of the Year candidate later in 2026.”
Wardley did not require hospital treatment over the weekend and is recovering from a facial injury sustained during the match.
