At the Kroger Queen City Championship in Ohio, Lottie Ward overcame a double bogey in the middle of the round to win by two strokes and claim her second LPGA Tour title.
Ward entered the final day at Maketewa Country Club with a three-stroke lead and got off to a good start with two birdies in the first five holes, but he made a double bogey on the par-4 sixth hole and gave up Hopaw.
The British woman took advantage of the next par-5 hole, canceling a bogey on the 13th with a birdie on the 17th, and with a 1-under 69, held off her followers and recorded her first win of the season.
Ward made five birdies in seven holes with a final-round 67 to beat contender Helan Liu at 12 under, while AIG Women’s Open champion Miyu Yamashita finished in third place, three strokes behind China’s Ruoning Ying.
“Obviously, I’m very, very happy and grateful,” Ward said after the win. This match is definitely a little sweeter than the first match (ISPS Handa Women’s Scottish Open). Because I wasn’t expecting much of it. I’ve seen everyone do well this time, so I’m glad we won again. ”
Former world No. 1 Jin Yong Ko shot a 5-under 65 to move up the leaderboard and share fifth place with Amanda Doherty. Meanwhile, Gino Titicle, who shot consecutive 69s over the weekend, fell to seventh place.
World No. 1 Nelly Korda finished eighth with a 3-under 67, Lydia Ko also finished with a 71 to be at 5-under, and defending champion Charlie Hull finished tied for 40th with a 2-under 68.
