US President Donald Trump said the US had carried out a “massive attack” against Venezuela and its leader, President Nicolas Maduro.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump claimed that Maduro and his wife were “captured and deported” after the operation, and said the operation was carried out “in coordination with U.S. law enforcement.”

The United States launched an attack inside Venezuela early Saturday, a dramatic escalation that Venezuelans have feared for weeks.

Earlier, US media such as Fox News and CBS News reported that the US had attacked the South American country.

In his first statement, President Maduro accused the United States of “very serious military aggression.”

“Venezuela rejects, denies and condemns before the international community the extremely serious military aggression committed by the current government of the United States against the territory and people of Venezuela,” Maduro’s government said in a statement.

Other countries are also responding to the attack.

Columbia

“We warn the whole world that they have attacked Venezuela,” Colombian President Gustavo Petro wrote on social media platform X.

“The Republic of Colombia reiterates its belief that peace, respect for international law, and the protection of life and human dignity must take precedence over any form of armed conflict,” Petro added.

Cuba

President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez issued a sharply worded condemnation on social media, accusing the US government of carrying out a “criminal attack” against Venezuela and calling for an urgent international response.

In his post on X, Díaz-Canel said Cuba’s so-called “zone of peace” was under “brutal attack” and called the U.S. actions “state terrorism” directed not only against the Venezuelan people but “our America” more broadly.

He concluded his statement with the revolutionary slogan: “Homeland or death, we will overcome.”

In a statement posted by various Cuban embassies around the world, Havana said it “condemns the US military attack on Venezuela.”

The statement also described the attack as “state terrorism” and called for “an urgent response from the international community.”

Iran

Iran’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement that it “strongly condemns the US military attack on Venezuela and the flagrant violation of its national sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
