US President Donald Trump has threatened to impose 100% tariffs on any country that implements a digital services tax on US tech companies, adding that the new tariffs would nullify previous agreements.
The message was posted on Truth Social on Friday, where President Trump singled out Europe as a potential target for tariffs.

The threat is the latest step by President Trump to aggressively counter efforts abroad to regulate the country’s tech giants.
“Many European countries are discussing the impending implementation of a digital services tax on U.S. businesses. Some of these countries are actually close to implementation,” President Trump wrote.
“Please allow this statement to state that any country imposing such a tax shall be subject to an immediate 100 percent duty on any goods sent to the United States.”
Republican leaders have previously warned countries not to impose taxes or regulations on American tech companies.
Last August, he said the measures were “designed to harm and discriminate against American technology.”
During his second term, President Trump enjoyed close ties with America’s powerful tech industry, pledging less domestic regulation and government support for emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI).
The president and his allies also argue that content moderation rules in European countries are a form of censorship.
Last month, the European Union finalized a deal with the United States that caps tariffs on most EU products at 15%. The agreement did not include details regarding the digital services tax.
President Trump then accused the EU of not honoring the agreement and set a new deadline for a deal with maximum tariffs of 15%: July 4, the US Independence Day.
But President Trump warned in a post Friday that the 100% retaliatory tariff on digital services tax would “supersede” any other agreement “whether or not implemented or signed.”
He also said these tariffs would take effect immediately.
