At least 10 people were injured in a Russian attack on Ukraine’s capital Kiev, and President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said he expected to meet with the US envoy in the coming days.
Kiev’s junta said Thursday that 10 people, including a child, were injured in the evening attack, and Mayor Vitali Klitschko said the injured included six medical personnel.

The junta initially said one person had been killed in the attack, but later said this report was proven to be false.
Klitschko said in a message on Telegram that the ninth floor of the high-rise building was damaged, adding that 15 people had been evacuated from the building in an area just outside the city centre.
A video posted on an unofficial Telegram channel showed a large fireball rising into the sky. Unofficial channels said the building was attacked by a jet-powered drone.
Local media said another explosion later shook the city. The air raid warning lasted for more than two hours after it was issued.
Klitschko said six people had been injured in previous attacks on the capital, which have been continuing for more than a week.
Ukraine’s state oil and gas company Naftogaz also announced that Russia had attacked its production facilities. The company said in a statement that the attack caused significant damage to its equipment, but did not specify the location.
Meanwhile, Interfax news agency reported that a Ukrainian drone crashed a bus in Horlivka, in the Russian-controlled region of Ukraine’s Donetsk region, killing one person and injuring five others.
Interfax news agency quoted Ivan Prikhodko, the city’s new Russian mayor, as saying the bus had been hit by a “targeted drone attack.”
Al Jazeera was unable to independently verify this claim. Both Ukraine and Russia deny targeting civilians.

Meetings in Moscow and Kyiv
The attack came as President Zelensky said he hoped to welcome U.S. President Donald Trump’s special envoy to Kiev in the coming days to renew efforts to halt Russian aggression.
Diplomatic efforts to end Russia’s four-and-a-half-year war with Ukraine have stalled in recent months as the United States shifted its focus to the Middle East war.
“We hope to meet the special envoys of the American president here in Kiev. We have received confirmation from them,” President Zelensky said in an evening speech.
“They are scheduled to meet in Moscow and Kiev. We hope that the talks will take place within the next few days,” he added.
Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, and the president’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, have been involved in shuttle diplomacy between Russia and Ukraine.
Although they have traveled to Moscow many times, they have never been to Kiev.
President Zelensky said that “tentative dates have been set” for the envoy’s first visit to the Ukrainian capital.
President Zelenskiy said in July that he had met with Witkov and Kushner “to revitalize diplomacy and bring peace closer.”
Russia’s war against Ukraine has become Europe’s worst conflict since World War II, killing thousands of civilians and hundreds of thousands of soldiers starting in 2022.
