A new Reuters/Ipsos poll shows President Donald Trump’s approval rating has fallen to 32%, the lowest of his political career, as Republicans grow dissatisfied with the president’s handling of the cost of living amid the unpopular Iran war.
A four-day poll that ended Sunday showed 73% of Republicans approve of President Trump’s performance, down from 82% in a Reuters/Ipsos poll a week ago. His overall approval rating at the time was 35 percent.
Trump returned to the White House in January 2025, promising to curb inflation and end foreign wars. A Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted within hours of his first oath of office gave him an approval rating of 47%.
In a new poll, only 17 percent of respondents supported his response to the biggest issue, the cost of living. Americans insist they will decide how to vote in the Nov. 3 midterm elections, in which President Trump’s Republican Party holds a slim parliamentary majority.
Frustration has been growing among Republicans since President Trump launched the war against Iran in February, and gasoline and diesel prices have increased significantly. For the first time, the number of Republicans who disapprove of President Trump’s handling of the cost of living outnumber those who approve of him, 51% to 44%.
President Trump said Wednesday that the United States is “hopefully on its way to ending” the war with Iran, raising the possibility of a resumption of diplomacy even as fighting continues in Yemen.
However, the Iranian government has not confirmed that direct negotiations with Washington have resumed.
The Reuters/Ipsos poll was conducted online and collected 1,277 responses from adults across the United States. The margin of error was 3 percentage points.
