Conservative commentator Katey Zacharias has been chosen as US President Donald Trump’s next press secretary.
A White House official told Al Jazeera on Friday that Zakaria had been “offered” the position.

Zakaria is a senior communications advisor for Trump Media and Technology Group, which runs Trump’s social media platform Truth Social, according to his LinkedIn profile. Her profile states that she was previously employed as a commentator on U.S. conservative media such as Newsmax and Fox News before joining the Trump administration in February 2026 as an employee of the Department of Homeland Security.
Zakaria first visited Washington in 2006, working as an intern at the Republican National Committee and the White House under former U.S. President George W. Bush, according to his profile.
The White House press secretary position has been vacant since August, when her predecessor, Caroline Leavitt, resigned to spend more time with her family.
