Let’s take a quick look at some of tonight’s results.
Democrats dominate in major elections
One such race was in the state’s 22nd Congressional District, located in the agricultural Central Valley.
Although these advantages are considerable, the Associated Press has not yet officially called them a race.
Progressive Aisha Wahab also has a solid lead in the race against fellow Democrat Melissa Hernandez in the 14th District.
Wahab overcame heavy spending by pro-Israel groups to defeat establishment-aligned Hernandez in a special election in September. She is currently on track to win a full term in that seat.
With his latest victory, Wahab became the first member of parliament of Afghan descent.
In the San Francisco Bay Area, moderate Democrat Scott Wiener is leading his progressive rival, Connie Chung, in the race to replace outgoing Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Mr. Wiener has a lead of about 10 points, with 50% of the vote so far.
Republicans face another heartbreaking defeat in gubernatorial race
But his attempt to highlight the cost of living issue by holding a campaign event offering discounted gas prices failed as many voters decried the eye-popping prices of President Donald Trump’s war with Iran.
Mr. Becerra’s victory comes more than five years after Republicans tried to oust Mr. Newsom through a recall election but were defeated by more than 20 points.
Tuesday’s loss will be even more stinging after Democrats have racked up shocking victories in states that would normally be easy wins for Republicans, including Texas.
