google Thursday saw the launch of Nano Banana 2, an update to the hugely popular artificial intelligence image generator.

The company released its first Nano Banana in August, and the service quickly took off. The Nano Banana Pro was launched on the market in November based on the Gemini 3 Pro.

Google said in a blog post that Nano Banana 2 has advanced world knowledge and is pulling real-time information from Gemini for more accurate rendering. The company also highlighted the new model’s faster speed, enhanced instruction-following, and more accurate text rendering for “marketing mockups and greeting cards.”

The company said Nano Banana Pro will continue to be available for “high-fidelity tasks that require maximum factual accuracy,” while Nano Banana 2 will focus on “rapid generation, precise instruction-following, and an integrated image search infrastructure.”

The Nano Banana 2 replaces its predecessor across Gemini’s Fast, Thinking, and Pro models.

AI image and video generators are rapidly gaining popularity among consumers, allowing them to create increasingly sophisticated and detailed graphics and videos with just a few text-based prompts. OpenAI launched its video generation tool Sora in 2024, but CEO Sam Altman wrote last March that the company’s AI processors were “melting” due to high usage.

adobe is driving further integration of AI into its suite of creative tools with Firefly, which generates photos and videos.

Creative companies have expressed concerns about copyright infringement due to the proliferation of generative AI tools. ByteDance is facing pushback from major Hollywood studios. disney and paramountfor intellectual property rights infringement related to the AI video creation tool “Seedance.”
