Returning luggage is a hassle. Uber They say they can fix it.
Uber Eats on Friday announced a returns feature that will allow customers to complete the process entirely from their phone, and will allow couriers to pick up and return items purchased from retailers on the app for a fee.
“In a first for the on-demand delivery industry, customers will now be able to return eligible retail items purchased on Uber Eats and receive an instant refund,” the announcement said.
This launch applies to retailers on Uber Eats, including: best buy, dicks sporting goods and Petco. Refunds will be processed when the courier picks up the returned item. Refunds will cost at least $20.
You can also return the item yourself to avoid delivery charges, which are calculated based on driver time and distance.
Originally just a ride-hailing app, Uber has become increasingly successful since entering the delivery space.
In the final quarter of fiscal 2025, Uber’s delivery revenue was $4.9 billion, up 30% year over year.
Returns of online purchases have been a growing problem for years, frustrating both retailers and customers.
According to post-purchase platform Root, a recent survey of 1,000 people who returned items online last year found that one-third said printing labels and locating packages was stressful. 43% of respondents ranked waiting for a refund as the top stress point for returns.

Uber Courier, formerly known as Uber Connect, had an option to return prepaid, sealed packages starting in 2023. With the new returns feature, unpackaged items will be taken back to the retailer instead of being taken to the post office. UPS or fedex.
