CNBC’s Jim Cramer warned investors not to react to every twist and turn of earnings season.

“Keep quiet during earnings season. Just take it all in and accept that the market has its own secrets that will be revealed over time,” the “Mad Money” host said Wednesday. “You just need to own good companies for the long term and block out the short-term noise unless there is a good buying opportunity.”

Major stock averages ended little changed on Wednesday. of Dow Jones Industrial Average decreased by 6 points or 0.01%. Nasdaq It fell by nearly 0.6%. S&P500 It fell by just over 0.1%. But behind the scenes, Cramer said, a flurry of earnings reports, a U.S. attack on Iran, and shifting expectations for oil prices and interest rates have created a market where stocks move in ways that defy conventional logic.

“Cross currents are disrupting everything,” Kramer said. “This is how you can reverse stock prices on a penny in the open field.”

A perfect example is GE Vernovafell 8.7% due to poor financial results. Despite acknowledging the setback, Kramer said the power equipment maker’s strong cash flow and strong turbine demand suggested the company’s long-term prospects were intact. GE Vernova is a holding in Cramer’s Charitable Trust, a portfolio used by CNBC Investing Club.

Nvidiaalso a club name, provided another example of the market’s unpredictable movements. AI chipmakers opened lower despite the lack of company-specific news. The stock reversed and closed 2.3% higher. Kramer said the move may have been spurred by optimism surrounding AI server makers. super micronew orders are rapidly increasing. He asked, “Delayed reaction? A mass of confusion? That makes sense.”

Kramer said the seemingly contradictory moves extend to the public sector sector as well.

like a utility company Sempra and dominion Despite this, they rose by 2.7% and 1.8%, respectively. Government bond yield I kept climbing. Investors often buy utilities for dividend income, so the sector typically comes under pressure when bond yields rise and bond investments become more attractive, Cramer said.

Kramer said investors should focus on owning quality companies and resist the temptation to chase every headline, rather than trying to explain every market move in real time. “Don’t expect or demand rationality. Don’t bet big on revenue numbers. In the end, you don’t need to,” he concluded.
