Airlines have suspended hundreds of flights to the Middle East, and some have diverted mid-flight flights due to widespread air closures in the region after the United States and Israel launched military operations in Iran.

Airlines canceled 868 flights to Middle Eastern countries on Saturday, according to aviation data firm Cirium.

Qatar Airways announced it would temporarily suspend all flights, and Dubai-based Emirates announced that flights to and from Dubai International Airport, one of the world’s busiest airports, have been suspended. In a statement, Emirates said: “We apologize for the significant inconvenience caused to customers affected by the disruption and are providing assistance with rebookings, refunds and alternative travel arrangements.” “The safety and security of our passengers and crew remains our top priority.”

Abu Dhabi-based Etihad Airways also canceled departures to and from the airport until Sunday afternoon.
