South Korea’s Kospi hit a record high on Tuesday as markets across the Asia-Pacific region traded mixed on hopes of a resolution to the Middle East conflict as tensions between Iran and the United States continued to rise.
“By laying siege and violating the cease-fire agreement, President Trump is trying to turn this negotiating table into a table of surrender in his imagination and justifying new warmongering,” Mohammad Berger Ghalibaf, the speaker of Iran’s parliament, told XPost.
Ghalibaf, who is also Iran’s chief negotiator, added: “We will not accept negotiations hidden behind threats. Over the past two weeks, we have been preparing to reveal new cards on the battlefield.”
This comes after President Donald Trump said on Monday that if a deal isn’t reached before the uneasy ceasefire with Tehran expires on Tuesday night and he threatens Iran with overwhelming military force, “a bunch of bombs are going to start going off.”
The threat also came as the U.S. delegation prepares to return to Pakistan for a possible second round of peace talks.
Investors remain bullish on the overall outlook for stocks. Ohson Kwon, chief equity strategist at Wells Fargo, said this on CNBC’s “Closing Bell: Overtime” Monday afternoon. “I think the economy will be fine for the next three months.”
