Russian President Vladimir Putin will meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing from May 19 to 20, Moscow and Beijing announced on Saturday.
The meeting comes less than a week after US President Donald Trump met with Xi in Beijing, marking the second time in less than a year that the leaders of the two largest economies have met.
“The visit of the Russian president took place in conjunction with the 25th anniversary of the Treaty of Good Neighborhood, Friendship and Cooperation, which is the basis of relations between states,” Putin’s office said in a statement.
The two leaders will “discuss current bilateral issues, ways to further strengthen the comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation between the Russian Federation and the People’s Republic of China, and exchange views on important international and regional issues,” the Kremlin said.
China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the upcoming meeting in a one-line post to X.
Russia is one of the world’s largest oil producers, while China is one of the largest buyers of fossil fuels.
