The airport in West Palm Beach, Florida, has been officially renamed after President Donald Trump, marking the first time an airport has been named after a sitting U.S. president.
Starting Thursday, the facility will be named Donald J. Trump Presidential International Airport, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
The airport, formerly known as Palm Beach International Airport, said in an FAQ posted online that “updates to signage, branding and public-facing materials will occur in phases.”
As part of the transition, the airport’s FAA location identifier will change from PBI to DJT. The International Air Transport Association code change is scheduled to take place on August 18th.
Major US carriers united airlines and delta airlines On Thursday, it began posting new airport “DJT” codes on its booking pages, but consumers looking for flights can still find airports using the old “PBI” codes.
Domestic major airlines Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, american airlines and southwest airlines.
The new branding comes after Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed legislation earlier this year to rename the airport. The move was later approved by the FAA.
The name change is estimated to cost $5.5 million, according to the airport.
According to the airport’s FAQ, the state of Florida has allocated $2.75 million for the project, and the remaining costs of the transition will be covered through the local airport authority’s operating budget and capital improvement program.
“We understand that the required name changes may be received differently by different passengers, but we appreciate your continued support during this transition period,” the airport said in an FAQ. “While some aspects may evolve over time, our core focus remains the same: providing a safe, reliable and comfortable airport experience.”
The airport is located near the president’s club, Mar-a-Lago, in Palm Beach, Florida, and he flies in and out of the airport fairly frequently.
The president’s son, Eric Trump, said Trump Force One, the nickname for a private jet owned by the Trump Organization, would be the first plane to land at the newly renamed airport.
“As a son and someone who flies out of this airport almost every day, I will forever be proud to have the initials ‘DJT’ on my boarding pass,” he wrote to X.
