Nvidia It is in talks to invest up to $3 billion in SB Energy. Softbank The Information, a subsidiary developing a large-scale planned Ohio data center project for OpenAI, reported on Saturday, citing people familiar with the discussions.
The investment proposal is part of NVIDIA’s discussions with OpenAI and SB Energy to provide approximately $100 billion in credit support for a planned data center campus in Ohio, according to the report.
According to the information, NVIDIA is considering investing half of the $3 billion at the conclusion of the Ohio project agreement and the other half as part of SB Energy’s planned initial public offering.
Reuters could not immediately confirm this report. Nvidia and SB Energy did not immediately respond to requests for comment outside of normal business hours.
SB Energy is aiming to go public as early as next month and could raise at least $5 billion in an IPO, the report added.
SB Energy is also backed by OpenAI to develop large-scale power and data center infrastructure projects. Founded in 2019, the company is building multiple data center campuses to meet the growing demand related to AI workloads.
The Wall Street Journal reported Friday that NVIDIA has revised its plan to back a proposed OpenAI data center project in Ohio, with the initial guarantee expected to be less than $120 billion, down from the previously discussed $250 billion.
