US 30 year treasury Bond yields were trading at levels not seen in nearly 20 years. Yields on Monday hit their highest level since June 2007.
Elsewhere, Japan’s 10-year bond yield reached its highest level in 30 years. Germany’s 30-year bond yield is at its highest level since 2011, and France’s 30-year bond yield is at its highest level since 2008.
Global yields have been rising recently as investors worry that oil prices could remain high due to stalled negotiations between Iran and the United States. U.S. crude oil rose on Monday and rose nearly 1% on Tuesday, trading above $85 a barrel.
“Equities aren’t worried about the continued rise in global bond yields thanks to strong AI trading, but it’s a question of when, not if, this interest rate trend will continue. I think it’s going to be a bear market in the long term,” said Peter Boockvar, chief investment officer at One Point BFG Wealth Partners.
Hopes for an end to the Middle East conflict continued to evaporate on Tuesday after President Donald Trump said in a post on Truth Social on Tuesday that the United States is not currently engaged in any “talk or dialogue” with Iran and has no plans to do so. He also said the naval blockade “remains in full force and effect.”
But the president said Monday that he would attack Oman “if it gets in the way” of U.S. efforts to negotiate with Iran.
