SAN FRANCISCO — Hyundai Motor Company’s latest luxury flagship is an all-electric large SUV called the Genesis GV90.
The up to seven-passenger EV features a new design direction for Genesis and expands the luxury brand’s lineup in the U.S. to seven models as Hyundai continues to expand domestic sales.
The Genesis GV90 is the largest vehicle the brand has offered since entering the U.S. market a decade ago. It is expected to compete with the Cadillac Vistic and Escalade IQ. mercedes benz EQS SUV and Rivian R1S in the large SUV segment.
“Today is a landmark day for Genesis and the future of luxury mobility,” Hyundai CEO Jose Muñoz said in a statement. “GV90 opens a new chapter for Genesis, building on our track record of bold innovation, great customer experiences, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.”

The GV90 will be produced at Hyundai’s new facility in Ulsan, South Korea. It is scheduled to go on sale in the US early next year. The company said pricing for the vehicle, which will be its fourth EV in the U.S., will be revealed closer to the vehicle’s launch.
Genesis declined to say whether the GV90 might be offered as a hybrid or gas-powered vehicle, but the company has done so with other nameplates such as the GV70 SUV and G80 sedan. U.S. EV sales have slowed over the past year after the Trump administration ended federal aid, including a $7,500 cap on EV purchases.
This vehicle is available in two variants. One is the GV90 Neolun with a coach door that opens from the center of the vehicle, and the other is the standard GV90 trim with a traditional swinging door. A “first edition” of the vehicle will also be available with special badging, wool cashmere and other luxury materials.

Coach doors (also known as suicide doors) are rare in the automotive industry. While it will be much easier to get vehicles in and out, it is more difficult to design to meet safety standards, and Genesis said it has achieved that.
“Despite the lack of a (middle) pillar, safety is a top priority on the GV90 Neolun. Genesis has designed a new structure that seamlessly joins the door and bodywork while maintaining the highest safety standards,” the company said.
The automaker says the GV90 is equipped with a new high-performance electric motor system capable of up to 490 kilowatts (approximately 660 horsepower) and 800 Newton meters (590 foot-pounds) of torque. According to the company, the EV range is expected to be approximately 310 miles.
The design features dual lights that run the length of the vehicle and meet at a central point, and was previously previewed by the brand as a concept car in 2024.
Genesis sales in the U.S. through the first half of this year totaled 39,088 units, an increase of about 5% from the same period last year. The brand has achieved 22 consecutive months of year-over-year sales growth.
