An Amazon cargo plane crashed at Miami International Airport in Miami, Florida on September 6, 2026. The Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement that Prime Air Flight 7598 overran the runway during landing at approximately 2:00 p.m. ET after departing from Luis Muñoz Marin International Airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico, early today.

Ann Amazon A cargo plane crashed off the runway at Miami International Airport on Sunday, hitting multiple vehicles and bursting into flames, sending thick black smoke into the sky and forcing the closure of all runways at one of the nation’s busiest airports.

More than 60 Miami-Dade Fire Rescue teams responded to the crash, arriving to find the aircraft on fire as crews worked to extinguish the fire and examine patients. Authorities have not yet released information on injuries or deaths.

The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration said the plane overran the runway around 2 p.m. after arriving from San Juan, Puerto Rico. Miami-Dade fire officials said the plane struck multiple vehicles after leaving the runway.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said the FAA sent investigators and ordered a complete ground standstill at Miami International Airport as emergency crews responded.

Images from the scene show the Prime Air plane came to rest on the side of the road near two semi-trucks. The aircraft appeared to be resting on its belly and was largely unharmed despite the fire.

“Today, we can confirm that an accident occurred on an Amazon Air plane operated by 21 Airlines as it attempted to land at Miami International Airport,” Amazon spokeswoman Kelly Nantel told CNBC. “We are working closely with local authorities and stakeholders to understand exactly what happened.”

All runways and taxiways were closed, an airport spokesperson said. About 250 flights were delayed at airports as of late Sunday afternoon, according to FlightAware, a website that tracks flight disruptions.

The FAA warned that delays are likely to continue even after the airport reopens, and that flights are expected to resume with fewer flights.

The National Transportation Safety Board said it was “gathering information” about the accident.
