Britain’s Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) said it would cut 4,000 jobs, about 10% of its global workforce, as the luxury car maker grapples with intense competition from cheaper Chinese rivals, cyberattacks and US President Donald Trump’s tariffs.

The company, part of Indian carmaker Tata Motors, said it was targeting savings of about 1.7 billion pounds ($2.3 billion) over the next two years, while cutting its break-even point to 300,000 units.

CEO PB Balaji said the company will also launch five new products over the next 12 months.

“The automotive industry faces significant challenges of technological change amid intense competition and geopolitical uncertainty,” Balaji said in a statement.

“As part of this transformation, we will be reducing approximately 4,000 employee roles around the world over the next two years. We recognize this is difficult news for our affected colleagues and are committed to supporting everyone with consideration, fairness and respect,” he added.

Shares of Tata Motors rose 0.3% on Monday. The Mumbai-listed stock has risen more than 10% since the beginning of the year.

JLR’s cost-cutting efforts are seen as a new challenge for Chancellor Andy Burnham after British luxury car companies Aston Martin and Bentley announced similar cuts in recent months.

British Business and Trade Secretary Jonathan Reynolds ruled out a bailout for the company over the weekend, but is expected to meet with JLR executives early this week to discuss plans to cut jobs.

“We understand that this is an uncertain and worrying time for affected workers, their families and the wider community,” a government spokesperson told CNBC in an email.

“We have taken significant action to support the UK car industry, including lowering electricity prices for manufacturers, providing £4 billion of capital and R&D funding to build zero-emission vehicles, and launching a £2 billion electric vehicle grant to encourage people to buy EVs.”

British car companies are not the only ones feeling the pressure. German car giant volkswagen Late last week it announced plans to cut a further 50,000 jobs as part of a historic transformation plan amid pressure from tariffs and fierce competition from Chinese car brands.
