South Park photo featured in announcement, show name changed to ‘South America’

The television comedy series “South Park” has announced that it will change its name to “South America” when it begins its 29th season on September 16th.
“Inspired by the courage and patriotism of Apple and Google, we are renaming South Park South America. We especially want to thank our parent company, Paramount, for their commitment to Skydance,” said show creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone.
Parker and Stone’s statement comes in the wake of U.S. President Donald Trump’s executive order to rename Lake Ontario Lake America amid a trade dispute with Canada. Canadian authorities said they would not approve the new name.
Apple and Google have since corrected the name of Lake Ontario in their Maps applications, so users in the United States now see “Lake America” while users in Canada see “Lake Ontario.”
The move also comes a day after President Trump posted an AI-generated post on Truth Social suggesting that New Mexico should be renamed “New America.”
Last year, the president used an executive order to rename the Gulf of Mexico the Gulf of America, sparking international opposition.
“South Park” premiered last year and won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Animated Program for its “Sermon on the Mount” episode, which parodied President Trump.
The “Skydance Surrender” line follows the $8 billion merger between parent companies Paramount and Skydance, which was approved by the Federal Communications Commission last year after Paramount settled a lawsuit brought by Trump for $16 million.
President Trump has claimed that a 2024 interview with then-presidential candidate Kamala Harris that aired on CBS’ “60 Minutes” was deceptively edited.
Paramount subsidiary CBS News announced in July 2025 that it would cancel comedian Stephen Colbert’s “The Late Show,” citing financial reasons, days after Paramount accused the comedian of paying “extensive bribes” to Trump. The final episode of the program was aired in May.
Paramount and the White House did not respond to requests for comment.
