The Emmy Awards will be leaving its long-standing rotation among broadcast networks. Amazon Prime Video It will be distributed in 2027 under an exclusive six-year global streaming deal, the e-commerce giant and the Television Academy announced on Tuesday.

Under the agreement, Prime Video will stream its annual awards, which recognize the best in television, for free to all viewers, including non-subscribers, in more than 240 countries and territories.

Prime Video’s rights to the Emmy Awards begin with the 2027 ceremony. NBC, owned comcastthe 2026 ceremony was broadcast on September 14th.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The release named Prime Video as the “permanent home” of the Emmy Awards, as opposed to the rotating arrangement that was in place several years ago.

The switch eliminates the traditional “wheel-dealing” arrangement for broadcasting the awards ceremony, in which ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox took turns hosting the Emmy Awards each year. The system has been in place since at least 1994, and the most recent eight-year contract expires this year.

“Television has never been more global, and the Emmy Awards should be a celebration the world can share,” Television Academy President Chris Abrego said in a statement.

“Having Prime Video as our exclusive home allows us to build on that legacy with unprecedented global reach and broader commitment to the Television Academy and our mission throughout the year,” he said.

The decision to move the more than 70-year-old awards show to streaming reflects broader trends in the changing media landscape as Americans continue to ditch broadcast and cable TV for subscriptions to streaming services. In recent years, streaming services have moved further into live events, securing entertainment and sports rights alongside broadcast networks and rights that were previously exclusive to networks.

In December 2025, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will of the alphabet YouTube and YouTube TV have acquired media rights to the Oscars, taking over from ABC in 2029. Netflix has been exclusively broadcasting the SAG Awards since 2024.
