LIV Golf could be heading into liquidation after BC Partners Credit reportedly scrapped plans to fund the resumption of breakaway leagues.

The investment firm had pledged up to $300 million for an improved version of LIV, known as LIV 2.0, but pulled the plug after LIV Golf failed to attract enough player contracts, according to the Associated Press.

LIV is scheduled to appear in U.S. Bankruptcy Court on Thursday, with the hearing expected to focus on liquidating its assets.リーグの最終的な運命は依然として不透明だ。

LIV filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in September after Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund announced it would stop funding the league after the 2026 season.

The relaunch proposed by BC Partners would see players become majority owners of a restructured league and a reduced schedule.

However, LIV lost several notable players, including Jon Rahm and Sergio Garcia, as they sought commitments to new ventures.

Rahm said Tuesday that uncertainty surrounding the future of the league and proposed changes to the league format influenced his decision to leave.

“There were so many unknowns then, and there are still so many unknowns,” he told reporters ahead of the Abu Dhabi Championship.ラーム氏は、刷新された大会は当初魅力を感じていたチーム形式から離れつつあるようだと付け加えた。

Garcia, who secured his release from his LIV contract in October, has outlined plans to return to the DP World Tour and explore a potential return to the PGA Tour.

According to Golf Digest, only four players have publicly committed to LIV 2.0: Richard Brand, Cameron Tringale, Brendan Steele and Ben Campbell.

LIV launched in 2022 as a challenger to the PGA Tour, signing high-profile players such as Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson and Bryson DeChambeau to lucrative contracts.

This appearance divided the world of men’s professional golf, with the PGA Tour suspending members who competed in LIV events. The dispute then spilled over into the courts, with players challenging their suspensions and rival organizations pursuing competing legal claims.

A June 2023 framework agreement between the PGA Tour, DP World Tour and PIF ended litigation and proposed a combination of commercial operations, but the deal was not completed.
