shares of Nvidia, oracle, core weave Other artificial intelligence names fell on Thursday after the market learned details about OpenAI’s earnings.

OpenAI CNBC told investors that annual revenue reached about $50 billion at the end of September, but confirmed that this was lower than the widely reported $68 billion figure late last month. A person familiar with the matter said the $68 billion figure includes total revenue from OpenAI’s partners and helps investors more directly compare it to its biggest rivals. human.

The Financial Times first reported the $50 billion figure.

OpenAI shared a financial update during an investor presentation, said the person, who requested anonymity to discuss the numbers. In addition to $50 billion in annual revenue, OpenAI had total utilization growth of 77% in the third quarter and 107% utilization growth in its enterprise business over the same period, the person said.

The company is under pressure to justify its $852 billion valuation to investors as it prepares for an IPO that is widely expected to be a blockbuster. OpenAI secretly filed a prospectus with regulators in June, and executives have indicated the company is aiming for a 2027 debut.

In the meantime, OpenAI is in early-stage discussions with investors about a potential new funding round. As previously reported by CNBC, the company could raise around $30 billion, but that number could change. The round is being driven by investor demand, and a term sheet has not yet been finalized.

OpenAI closed a historic $122 billion funding round in March, and CFO Sarah Friar told CNBC last week that the company is still “very well capitalized.”
