
The White House has tapped attorney and conservative commentator Katie Zacharias. Trump Media & Technology Groupwill be the next press secretary, a White House official confirmed to CNBC.
Zakaria, a self-described “hard-line Trump supporter,” was offered the role, the person said, speaking on condition of anonymity to discuss the hiring announcement. It was not immediately clear whether she accepted the offer.
If Zakaria takes the job, he will replace Caroline Leavitt, who resigned from the Trump administration at the end of August. Levitt, who is on maternity leave after giving birth to her second child earlier this year, will join Fox News as an on-air contributor in November.
The New York Times first reported that the White House had nominated Zakaria.
Zakaria has been working since June as a senior communications adviser for Trump Media, owner of the president’s favorite social media site Truth Social, according to his LinkedIn profile.
Her profile also shows that she currently serves as general counsel for Fix California, a conservative activist group founded by Richard Grenell, President Trump’s special envoy and former director of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
Zakaria completed a two-month stint as Department of Homeland Security spokesperson in March, according to his LinkedIn page.
Zakaria’s IMDb page lists dozens of appearances on numerous political talk shows on Fox News and other conservative stations.
