Polish security services called a special meeting on Sunday after receiving information about possible attacks on Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamisz, a spokesperson said.

Special agency spokesman Jacek Dobrzynski said authorities were treating the threat as “deadly”, although he could not go into details.

“I have said that there is a high probability that these threats will be carried out,” he told reporters.

Interior Ministry spokeswoman Carolina Galecka said the National Protection Agency, which is responsible for the security of ministers, had forwarded an email to police with information about the possible attack.

Violent crime is relatively rare in Poland, but the country faces security threats due to its deep political polarization and proximity to the war in Ukraine.

In August, police detained a 23-year-old man on suspicion of calling for the assassination of a senior Polish official.

Tusk said he received threats after an assassination attempt on Slovak Prime Minister Roberto Fico in 2024.
