OpenAI wants to harden browsers, but it could be a security nightmare

The browser wars are heating up again, and this time AI is in the driver’s seat.

OpenAI just released Atlas, a ChatGPT-powered browser that allows users to surf the web using natural language, and also features an “agent mode” that allows users to complete tasks autonomously. It’s one of the largest recently released browsers, but it debuted with unresolved security flaws that could potentially expose passwords, emails, and sensitive data.

On TechCrunch’s Equity podcast, Max Zeff, Anthony Ha, and Sean O’Kane break down the debut of Atlas, the widespread wave of alternative browsers, and other startup and technology news of the week.
