Real Madrid beat struggling Valencia 4-0 on Saturday, with Kylian Mbappé scoring twice and Jude Bellingham and Alvaro Carreras also scoring, as the La Liga leaders secured their 13th win in 14 games in all competitions this season.

With this win, Real extended their lead at the top of the table to 30 points, seven points behind second-placed Villarreal and eight points behind third-placed Barcelona, who are tied with Atlético Madrid on 22 points but still have one game in hand.

Valencia, who are in 18th place in La Liga with nine points, are without a win in their last six league games and are already fighting to avoid relegation.

Mbappe gave the home side a two-goal lead with goals in the 19th and 31st minutes, first converting a penalty awarded for Cesar Tarrega’s handball and volleying home from close range 12 minutes later.

In the 44th minute, just after Valencia keeper Julen Aguirre-Zabala denied Vinicius Junior a penalty kick, Bellingham made it 3-0 with a superb low shot from the edge of the box into the bottom corner of the box. Meanwhile, Carreras capped off the clash in the 82nd minute with an unstoppable diagonal shot.

Real dominated from the start, with Mbappé and Federico Valverde narrowly missing early chances, while Vinicius Junior and Bellingham had powerful shots denied by Aguirre-Zabala.

The breakthrough came in the 19th minute, when a VAR check confirmed Tarrega’s handball, and Mbappe stepped forward and calmly converted the resulting penalty.

Twelve minutes later, Mbappé doubled his tally with a brilliant move on the volley from close range. Bellingham played a perfect through ball to Alda Guller, who fed a pinpoint cross to the Frenchman at the far post.

Mbappe has scored 13 goals in 11 La Liga games this season, and 18 in all competitions.

“Mbappe is a great player. We have to enjoy him. I hope he continues to score goals for Madrid, for himself and for his history. He still has a lot to achieve and I have no doubt that he will do it. He is one of the best players in the world,” Valverde told Real Madrid TV.

Real slowed their pace in the second half and conserved their energy for Tuesday’s Champions League clash with Liverpool.
