A recent NBC News poll found that Americans are increasingly dissatisfied with President Donald Trump’s handling of the economy less than a year after taking office.

In a poll of 1,000 voters conducted Oct. 25-28, 63% said Trump has performed worse than expected on the economy.

Separately, 65% said President Trump didn’t do enough to care for the middle class, and 66% said the same about his response to inflation and the cost of living.

President Trump’s overall approval rating in public opinion polls has fallen 4 points since March to 43%, but 55% disapprove of his performance.

This negativity appears to be reflected in voters’ feelings of dissatisfaction with Republican politicians. With one year left until the 2026 midterm elections, polls show that Democrats are likely to win a majority in Congress by an 8-point margin, 50% to 42%. In the March poll, Democrats led by just one point, 48% to 47%.

The results come as the government shutdown continues for more than a month, impacting critical government programs including SNAP food benefits.

The NBC News poll also showed voters are divided over which party can handle the economy better.

The poll found that 38% of voters thought Republicans would do a better job, while 37% said Democrats were more effective.

This follows the recent CNBC National Economic Survey, which showed that views on the US economy have become more negative.
