Jensen Huang’s remarks at the All-In Conference held in Los Angeles on Monday became a hot topic. However, there are other things to note regarding the appearance. After taking a live phone call from President Trump on stage and wearing his now signature alligator jacket, Huang was handed Apple’s new flip phone to answer the call, which isn’t scheduled to be in stores for another five weeks.
Flashing unannounced hardware while chatting with the president? Not bad flex.
With Trump as the speaker, the conversation turned to the safety of AI, and the two seemed to agree that the growing anxiety about AI amounts to what Trump called “misinformation.” President Trump has argued that the real winners of the AI panic are China and “the politicians” and that the technology is too big — “bigger than the internet,” he said — to let go. (In the same exchange, Mr. Huang told Mr. Trump, “Did you hear that? There are thousands of people clapping.”)
We will never know whether Mr. Hwang really shares the same ideas or whether he is not in a position to say otherwise. Nvidia’s business model relies heavily on AI labs buying more chips, so if he cares about his company’s stock price, it makes sense to downplay the existential risks. (It was still up 33% over the past year, but is down a few percentage points today.)
In any case, while everyone was focused on President Trump’s surprise phone call, a few people also noticed the $1,999 cell phone in Hwang’s hand. Perhaps that was Huang’s own message. It’s been a decade since Apple stopped putting Nvidia hardware in its devices, and now it needs enough Nvidia to run some of Apple Intelligence on its devices.
