Petlibro’s new AI-powered feeder is a game-changer for multi-pet households

Smart feeders have become one of the most crowded categories in pet technology, with companies racing to add AI cameras and health tracking to devices that previously only dispensed food on a schedule. I had fun testing Petlibro’s wet food dispenser a few years ago, so this time I wanted to try something from the company’s newest automatic feeder lineup. It’s the Granary 2 series, designed specifically for dry food.

I was not disappointed. Based on the brand’s Granary line, the Granary 2 Series lineup is designed to give cat parents a clearer picture of what their pets are actually eating, from the amount of food their pets ingest to the amount of time they spend eating and whether their habits change over time.

There are four models in this series, priced from $129.99 to $249.99. Granary 2 is an entry-level option that offers app-controlled feeding, precise portioning, and intake tracking. The $189.99 Granary 2 Vision I tested adds an AI-powered camera that can recognize up to 10 cats and track each pet’s individual eating habits.

The $199.99 Vision Duo is aimed at multi-pet households and features two separate dispensing chutes and bowls so each pet receives its own portion, while the company says its most expensive model, the Granary 2 X ($249.99), uses AI recognition to deliver personalized portions to pets with specific dietary needs.

The biggest upgrade across the Granary 2 series is the built-in scale. The feeder can measure the food in the tray, so you can track not only the amount of food dispensed, but also how much is left in the bowl. This gives you a better way to estimate how much your pet actually ate. With a traditional automatic feeder, you’ll know that you fed your cat at 7pm, but you won’t necessarily know if your cat ate it, how much it ate, or how long it took to finish eating.

Granary 2 tracks your intake, meal times, feeding frequency, and even your favorite meal times and speeds. Over time, the companion app builds a picture of your pet’s normal eating patterns in daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly views. This makes it easier to notice subtle changes in your appetite and daily routine that you might not notice with other apps. For pet parents who closely monitor weight, portion sizes, and eating behavior, this could make the Granary 2 a feature worth considering.

Granary 2 offers two main feeding modes: smart replenishment mode and schedule mode.

Smart refill mode keeps your bowl supplied with small, fresh doses throughout the day, automatically stopping when you reach your set daily dietary limit. This is especially useful for cats who prefer eating grass to eating one or two large meals.

Schedule mode provides more traditional control, allowing you to set specific feeding times and portions. There’s also a manual feeding button in case you want to dispense food outside of the normal schedule.

The version I tested neatly adds another AI-powered camera that can recognize which pets are eating and automatically associate that meal with the correct profile. This is especially useful in households with multiple pets. If one cat is on a special diet, needs to manage their weight, or has different nutritional requirements than other cats, being able to track their individual diet can be very helpful. The feeder will only open if the camera recognizes the correct pet.

The 1080p camera also has night vision, so you can check on your cat while you’re out and see what’s going on around the feeder. It also has two-way audio, so you can communicate with your pet from a distance. Also, if you’re the type of parent who likes to invite your cat over for dinner, you can also record a short message that plays directly from the feeder.

Additionally, the feeder can send instant app alerts for issues such as low battery, low food level, or food jamming in the feeder. These notifications give you added peace of mind when you’re away from home because you don’t have to worry about whether the feeder is still working properly or if an issue is preventing your pet from getting food. It also has a built-in rechargeable backup battery, so you can rest assured even in the event of a power outage.

However, it’s important to note that some of Granary 2’s more advanced features are tied to Petlibro’s subscription service. Certain health tracking and monitoring features require a Petlibro Care subscription (starting at $59.99 per year), while cloud recording and playback on camera-equipped models requires paying for a Video Cloud plan ($119.99 per year).

Overall, I think this is one of the best feeders I’ve tested, but if you’re looking for a more affordable option, the closest comparison is Pawsync’s $79.99 feeder. Use a built-in scale to ensure accurate portion sizes and settings designed to prevent both underfeeding and overfeeding.
