President Donald Trump announced Tuesday that the White House will launch America.gov, an AI chatbot aimed at helping people find government services and other information.
Google is a partner in the launch and has confirmed that its AI model Gemini is involved. US Chief Design Officer Joe Gebbia added that the government also uses Grok.

Making government services more accessible is a worthy goal, but are AI chatbots the best way to achieve this?Large-scale language models are not perfect and are still prone to illusions. In fact, CNN recently reported that the US military came close to launching an armed operation against a Chinese ship believed to be carrying nuclear weapons components. The military realized that the supposed threat was just an AI hallucination and called off the mission at the last minute.
If someone received incorrect information from America.gov, it probably wouldn’t cause a nuclear war, but the mistake could still have serious consequences. People could use the chatbot to access information such as applying for food stamps, renewing visas, filing taxes, and errors that could result in missed deadlines, denials of benefits, and fines.
