President Donald Trump’s administration has launched America.gov, a new website aimed at simplifying access to government information.
The website functions like a chatbot, comparable to OpenAI’s ChatGPT or Anthropic’s Claude, directing users to official government sources for questions like passport renewal.

The president announced the new hub Tuesday along with several Cabinet members, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy.
In his speech, the president asserted that the website does not store user information and used the opportunity to tout simplifications to information about elections and citizenship applications.
Chief Design Officer Joe Gebbia said the site is powered by Google’s Gemini AI and xAI’s Grok.
The executive order announcing the new site’s launch describes it as “a unified digital front door to the federal government for all individuals in the United States seeking federal information and services.”
The site also says it provides “an entry where individuals can sign in, communicate in plain language, receive accurate answers, and, where authorized and technologically available, complete government transactions without having to navigate multiple government agency websites.”
White House officials told Al Jazeera that the website adheres to the security protocols of the government agency that users contact and is maintained by the agency rather than America.gov, such as Medicare.
Al Jazeera tested the answers provided by the website to see how they matched with the president’s views.
When asked, “Who is the fake news?” he said, “I don’t label news organizations or comment on them.” When asked who won the 2020 presidential election, he answered Joe Biden. When asked whether the department headed by Pete Hegseth is the Department of Defense or the Department of the Army, he said, “It’s the Department of Defense (DoD). Until Congress changes it, that’s the legal name.”
When asked about obtaining specific records, such as personal tax information, citizenship records, political contributions, and Securities and Exchange Commission filings, users were directed to a government website that provides that data for individuals.
But in a presentation announcing the new site, Rubio indicated that in the future, the website could allow Americans to apply for a passport directly through the site or even take and upload a passport photo.
This website was created in conjunction with the National Design Studio, which is part of the Office of the President and was created by President Trump in August 2025.
