Eric Schmidt’s fortune is about to get even bigger. The former Google CEO reportedly owns about 1% of Anthropic shares after investing tens of millions of dollars in the leading AI research institute’s Series A round in 2021, according to Bloomberg. The startup was valued at $461 million at the time, according to PitchBook data.
If Bloomberg’s estimates are correct, Schmidt’s stake would be significantly larger than the 2% stake held by co-founder and CEO Dario Amodei. Anthropic is widely expected to go public by the end of the year, and the highest market valuation values the company at $2 trillion. That valuation would add up to $20 billion to Schmidt’s net worth, which Bloomberg currently estimates at $57.5 billion.
Mr. Schmidt has been active as a technology investor since stepping down as Google CEO in 2011. He deploys capital through multiple entities, including Tomorrow Ventures, Innovation Endeavors Management, and his family office, Hillspire. His other AI bets include Mistral, General Intuition, and Reflection AI.
Schmidt and Antropic did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
