Turkiye announced that he had issued arrest warrants for genocide charges against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other Israeli officials.

The list includes Defense Minister Yisrael Katz, National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir and Army Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir, according to a Friday statement from the Istanbul Prosecutor’s Office, but the prosecutor’s office has not released the complete list.

President Turkiye accused officials of “genocide and crimes against humanity” that Israel has “systematically committed” in the Gaza war since October 2023.

“The attack on Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital on October 17, 2023 claimed 500 lives. On February 29, 2024, Israeli soldiers deliberately destroyed medical equipment. … Gaza was placed under blockade and victims were denied access to humanitarian aid,” it said.

The statement also mentions the “Turkish-Palestinian Friendship Hospital” built in the Gaza Strip by Turkiye and bombed by Israel in March.

Israel denounced the move as a “PR stunt.”

“Israel categorically rejects with contempt the recent PR stunt by the tyrant (President Recep Tayyip) Erdoğan,” Foreign Minister Gideon Saar wrote on X.

Palestinian organization Hamas welcomed the announcement, calling it “a commendable step that (affirms) the sincere position of the Turkish people and their leaders, who are committed to the values of justice, humanity and fraternity that unite them with the oppressed Palestinian people.”

Turkiye’s announcement came nearly a year after the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and former defense minister Yoav Gallant on charges of “war crimes.”

Last year, Tolkier joined South Africa’s lawsuit accusing Israel of genocide at the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

Israel’s war in Gaza has killed at least 68,875 Palestinians and injured 170,679 since October 2023.
