london —
Incredible photos of rainbows, lightning strikes, and incredible cloud formations have been selected as finalists in the 2026 Weather Photographer of the Year contest.
The Royal Meteorological Society (RMetS), which organizes the contest, said it received 5,500 entries this year and a panel of judges narrowed it down to 30 finalists.
It’s now up to the public to choose the winner, and voting will be open until November 5th.
RMetS chief executive Liz Bentley said in a statement: “This competition continues to show how powerful photography is in connecting people with the weather and our changing climate.”
“The stunning images shortlisted this year not only showcase the breathtaking and dramatic beauty of the sky, but also serve as an important reminder of the impacts of climate change,” she added.
Other finalists include images of fog spreading over the hills of Vietnam, huge chunks of ice melting from Argentina’s glaciers, and wildfire smoke obscuring the New York City skyline.
