Russell Vought, director of the White House Office of Management and Budget, told lawmakers that the total cost of the Iran war cannot be estimated and that the Trump administration has not yet considered a request for additional funding to send to Congress.
“We’re not ready to submit a request. We’re still working on it. We’re working hard to figure out what we need for this fiscal year and next fiscal year,” Vought told members of the House Budget Committee on Wednesday.
“Will there be a baseball stadium? Will it be more than $50 billion?” asked Rep. Veronica Escobar, D-Texas.
“Congressman, I don’t have a ballpark for you,” Vought said.
Linda Bilmes, a professor of public policy at the Harvard Kennedy School, published an analysis this month that found the war could cost taxpayers $1 trillion.
