A CNBC analysis of President Trump’s August financial disclosures found 517 sales and sales ranging in value from approximately $74.3 million to $273.3 million, with each item reported at a variety of dollar amounts. CNBC’s calculations put the purchase price at least $44.2 million and the sales at least $30.1 million.
The 18-page filing shows Trump’s portfolio remains very active, even though trading has slowed since June and July, when Trump disclosed more than 1,000 trades each month.
The biggest transaction was on Aug. 21, when he bought between $5 million and $25 million in Meta stock during a broader portfolio reshuffle. The filing also shows a huge new investment in SpaceX.
On Aug. 18, Trump’s account purchased $1 million to $5 million of senior unsecured bonds due July 2031 with an interest rate of 5.35% issued by Elon Musk’s rocket and satellite company.
Two days later, President Trump signed the National Space Transportation Policy, which calls for the United States to support at least 1,000 launches and re-entries a year by 2030. The policy directs federal agencies to facilitate commercial access to federal launch facilities and encourage private investment and public-private partnerships in space infrastructure.
SpaceX is a major contractor for the Department of Defense and a launch provider for NASA, and is well-positioned to benefit from policies aimed at expanding the U.S. commercial launch market.
President Trump had already invested in SpaceX, but on a much smaller scale, buying between $15,001 and $50,000 of stock in both June and July, the IPO months, and selling it in July for between $1,001 and $15,000.
SpaceX did not immediately respond to CNBC’s request for comment.
The White House said Thursday that President Trump would not dictate the deal. Spokesman Davis Ingle said the portfolios are managed independently through discretionary accounts and computer-based models, and there is “no ability” for Trump or his family to influence investment decisions.
By contrast, recent presidents typically sell individual stocks or rely on blind trusts or fund diversification to avoid potential conflicts.
The new filing does not reveal the exact size of Trump’s investments, as federal disclosures report a wide range of transactions rather than exact amounts. But tight trade has become a hallmark of President Trump’s second term.
His 2025 annual financial disclosure showed more than 21,000 stock trades in eight accounts holding at least $858 million, compared to just 86 stock trades disclosed in 2017, his first year in office.

The measure was aimed at mitigating soaring beef prices and was effective from September 1 for up to 90 days. Mr. Trump’s account also continued to buy municipal bonds, a pattern repeatedly revealed in Mr. Trump’s revelations. The August filing includes dozens of local securities related to state and local governments, schools, hospitals, housing authorities and other public entities.
