Harrison Reid’s stoppage-time screamer stunned Liverpool, who thought they had won against Fulham thanks to Cody Gakpo’s stoppage-time finish in a thrilling finale to a 2-2 draw at Craven Cottage.

Gakpo took off his shirt, waved it over his head and dashed to celebrate his 94th-minute home goal with jubilant away fans.

Harrison Reid’s rocket equalizes Fulham vs. Liverpool in the 97th minute!

But those scenes were upended in the 97th minute when substitute Reid slotted the ball into the top corner of Liverpool’s net from 25 yards, sparking wild cheers. It was the Fulham midfielder’s first goal since April 2023, and it’s a goal he’ll never forget.

It was a close game until the dramatic conclusion, but Florian Wirtz’s second goal in three games was initially flagged but was narrowly ruled onside by VAR.

Despite a lengthy review and the goal being conceded, Wirtz still appeared to be in an offside position. “He looks like he’s making further progress,” said Sky Sports’ Jamie Carragher. “I know angles can be deceiving, but given the fact that we got the penalty spot, I can’t believe it was given to us.”

Harry Wilson’s opener also had to be overturned by officials at Stockley Park. Stockley Park found themselves playing the Welshman before Virgil van Dijk used the skills he honed in Liverpool’s academy to score a super finish. Raul Jimenez’s flick assist was equally classy.

Harry Wilson’s powerful goal puts Fulham ahead against Liverpool in the Premier League!

Before that breakthrough, Kodi Gakpo, who was leading the line alongside Hugo Ekitike, who was rested with a hamstring problem, headed a shot towards the wooden frame from an offside position after Timothy Castagne had brilliantly blocked a flick from Curtis Jones. Gakpo then had his close-range finish from Milos Kerkes’ cross early in the second half ruled out for offside.

That signaled a more intentional start to the second period for the visiting team, which lacked a sharp first 45 points. That momentum led to Mac Allister’s corner kick hitting the bar and Wertz clipping home his second Premier League goal after some work from Conor Bradley.

team news

Fulham switched to a back three, with Issa Diop joining the back line, Timothy Castagne at right wing-back and Tom Cairney starting in midfield after his goal at Crystal Palace. Hugo Ekitike was absent due to injury, so Kodi Gakpo took his place, while Milos Kerkes and Alexis Mac Allister also returned to the Liverpool XI.

But Fulham fought back and gasped when Wilson’s chip hit the frame of Alisson’s goal, leaving the Liverpool goalkeeper stranded. At that point, they looked most likely to score a winner.

Kodi Gakpo scores a late goal for Liverpool as he converts Frimpong’s ‘wicked’ cross!

But just as Ngakpo looked to have won the game when he connected Jeremy Frimpong’s cross at the back post, the hosts were on the floor, but a big development followed, with Reid scoring what was sure to be the best goal of his career.

Fulham had beaten Liverpool here in April, but this draw ultimately felt like a victory. Marco Silva’s team are missing key players due to AFCON and injuries, and are currently in 11th place, four points behind the defending Premier League champions, who remain in fourth place.

More to come.
