Gabriel Martinelli will avoid further punishment for playing the ball to Conor Bradley and attempting to push the Liverpool defender off the pitch as he lay injured on the grass.

Martinelli was cautioned by referee Anthony Taylor following a stoppage-time flashpoint in Arsenal’s goalless draw with Liverpool.

Arsenal winger Martinelli was widely criticized for his actions which angered Liverpool players.

However, as Taylor admitted at the time, the matter is thought to have been dealt with and he will not face retrospective action from the Football Association.

Meanwhile, coach Martinelli apologized after the game.

“Connor and I have been texting and I have already apologized to him,” Martinelli said in a story posted to her Instagram account.

“I really couldn’t understand how the heat at that time could have seriously injured him.

“We deeply apologize for the way we reacted. We will once again do everything in our power to help Connor recover quickly.”

Ref Watch takes a closer look at Gabriel Martinelli’s attempt to move Conor Bradley after the Liverpool defender was injured, asking whether he should have been sent off and whether he could be punished retrospectively.

Former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher speaks on Sky Sports News’ Ref Watch:

“If the players leave it alone, it will be easier for the referee to deal with Martinelli. When everyone else is involved, everything else will be strengthened.

“I think what Martinelli is doing is being diluted, and I think in many ways they’re helping him stay on the field.”

On whether Martinelli should have received retroactive punishment:

“I don’t think so. He was given a yellow card for his actions. If the players leave the decision to the referee, he has to deal with a different situation. When everyone is together, he has to check on everyone else.”

“I don’t think it was enough (to give a red card) yet.”

Keene: That behavior is absolutely disgraceful.

Roy Keane and former Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge have reacted to Gabriel Martinelli’s attempt to force Conor Bradley off the pitch late in the match, with both pundits agreeing it was a “disrespectful” move.

Sky Sports’ Roy Keane criticized Martinelli’s actions after the match, calling his actions “absolutely disgraceful”.

“It’s not good. We know football and the players are good players,” he said.

“I threw him the ball, I stood over him and gave him a little knee bump. He tried to force him off.

“That act is absolutely disgraceful. He’s a good kid to turn himself over. Hopefully Martinelli sees that and hopefully he apologizes for it. That’s not a good thing.”

Daniel Sturridge added: “It’s disappointing. You have passion and you want to be a winner and you want to help your teammates, but as a footballer you have to be respectful.”

“It’s never a good feeling to be injured. Martinelli thinks he’s wasting his time, but you have to be aware enough to see him drop. He’s been in that situation before.

“That’s rude. It’s probably worse than rude.”
