Brooks Koepka reapplies for PGA Tour membership after leaving LIV Golf | Golf News

Five-time major champion Brooks Koepka has reapplied for membership on the PGA Tour after choosing to step away from LIV Golf.

Koepka announced his departure from the Saudi-backed league just before Christmas, ending his contract a year early to spend more time with his family.

News that the 35-year-old is aiming to return to the PGA Tour – his last non-major appearance was at the Valspar Championship in March 2022 – was first reported by ESPN.

The US circuit’s policy is for players to sit out one year from their last LIV tournament before re-entering the PGA Tour.

Koepka’s previous LIV event was in August 2025.

Koepka has won nine times on the PGA Tour, including five majors.

Koepka, who has nine PGA Tour wins, including two U.S. Opens and three PGA Championships, must go through a disciplinary process before returning.

The final decision will likely rest with new CEO Brian Rolup, but there will also be input from the PGA Tour Policy Committee, which includes Tiger Woods.

Koepka will still be able to play in four majors after earning a five-year exemption for winning the 2023 PGA Championship at Oak Hill.

He has fallen to 244th in the world rankings as he currently does not earn any ranking points in LIV events.

The first PGA Tour event of 2026 is the Sony Open in Hawaii, which will be broadcast live on Sky Sports starting Thursday, but the Sentry, scheduled to be the opening round, was canceled due to drought and water conservation issues on the Hawaiian island of Maui.

Analysis: Koepka’s return would be a huge turnaround for the PGA Tour

Sky Sports News reporter Jamie Weir said this before news broke that Koepka had reapplied for membership on the PGA Tour after leaving LIV Golf.

“Koepka has always put his family first. Golf for him has always been a means to an end; it has never been his life. His only purpose was to take care of his family.

“He joined LIV because his body was breaking down. When he fully recovered, he was asked if he regretted that decision and hinted that he did.

“I don’t think his decision to retire is all that surprising because he was the kind of golfer that made buyers feel good about themselves.

“It would be great for the PGA Tour to bring back someone of Koepka’s stature, a proven champion and one of the greatest players of his generation.

“Are we going to create a little loophole so he can come back sooner?”
