Highlights of the Women’s Super League match between Manchester City and Everton

Manchester City maintained a six-point lead at the top of the Women’s Super League with a controlled 2-0 victory, and the quality was too much for Everton.

Goals from Kerorin and Vivian Miedema on either side of the first half rounded out a professional performance, despite missing several chances to favor the scoreline and frustrating top scorer Bunny Shaw.

This was Shaw’s standard, and he was understandably disappointed not to find the back of the net, producing a personal xG of 1.58 in 12 efforts, a third of Man City’s total. The hosts created a total of eight big chances, six of which were missed by Shaw.

Still, Andrii Zeglarc’s team were never in danger of conceding the result. After losing to Chelsea in their first game under Jegratz, they have won 11 league games in a row since then and if they can maintain this momentum they will move towards the title.

They will face a testing few weeks with two fixtures against Chelsea and two different competitions. This is similar to last season, when they faced each other four times in quick succession. Back then, the Londoner easily came out on top, but we suspect this latest edition will create a more even heat.

City have scored at least 10 more goals than any other WSL challenger this season, with only Chelsea conceding fewer goals. The best offense and best defense in the league could be the final deciding factor in this year’s race.

Baltimore scores 2 goals, Chelsea beats West Ham

Highlights of the Women’s Super League match between Chelsea and West Ham

Sandy Baltimore scored twice as Chelsea beat West Ham 5-0 as the Hammers lost their first game under new manager Rita Guarino.

The game was decided within 46 seconds, when Yu Endo tipped a cross from host Ellie Carpenter into his own net.

It was another defensive mistake 30 minutes ago. Goalkeeper Kinga Shemik’s attempted pass out hit Lauren James in the thigh and into the back of the goal.

Two more goals were scored before the end of the first half. Alyssa Thompson was lurking at the back post to head home a rebound from Joanna Ritting-Canellid’s shot. Then, a surprising strike from Baltimore opened her 2026 account.

She charged into the box and unleashed an unstoppable volley, scoring Chelsea in back-to-back games.

There was a strange moment at the start of the second half when West Ham started with 10 men. The team wanted Estelle Cascarino to make her debut, but she was not allowed on the pitch because of her earrings.

When she tried to enter the match, she had her entire left ear covered with a band-aid, but was still not allowed to enter the arena. It was unclear what the problem was or where the earrings were. Ines Belloumou, who was supposed to be sent off, came on a few minutes into the second half and played the entire match.

The Blues continued to play well in the second half and were awarded a penalty in the 69th minute. Vivian Asay received a handball penalty, albeit a harsh one, for having her arm at her side when Ritting Canelid’s shot hit her.

However, there was no VAR and the referee’s decision stood. Baltimore then took a nice spot kick, going left and sending Shemic flying the other way.

The win means the Blues are now in line with WSL leaders Man City and have kept the most clean sheets (six) of any team this season.

Spurs show new strength as they defeat Leicester

Highlights of the Women’s Super League match between Spurs and Leicester City

Tottenham defeated Leicester 1-0 in a close match and started 2026 with the same good result as they ended last year.

Spurs have already surpassed their points total for the 2024/25 season but needed an own goal from former captain Ash Neville to go through after wasting a number of chances against Leicester.

Despite showing some slump in the final third, Emily van Egmond pulled off the best save from Riese Kopf to limit the visitors to just a few.

Spurs have won each of their last 12 home games when they have taken the lead, and their seventh win of the season saw them move past Manchester United and disrupt the top four.

Martin Ho’s influence in this aspect is very noticeable. The next challenge will be to maintain this high level until May.

Aston Villa’s fast-break goal defeats Brighton

Highlights of the Women’s Super League match between Aston Villa and Brighton

Two quick-fire goals helped Aston Villa beat Brighton 2-1 at Villa Park.

The Seagulls took an early lead after a Sabrina DeAngelo error. Her attempted pass was intercepted by Fuka Tsunoda, who calmly slotted the ball past the goalkeeper in her first start for Brighton.

But after the break Rachel Daly and Kirsty Hanson scored within a minute of each other to give Villa the three points.

Daly scored from a set-piece and Hanson curled a shot from the top of the area into the net.

Both teams were disappointed in missed chances for extra points, with Villa moving ahead of Brighton into sixth place.

Liverpool’s struggles continue

Liverpool have not won a single game in 12 WSL games.

Liverpool’s first win of the season is yet to come as they played out a goalless draw with London City Lionesses.

Neither team had a shot on target during a subdued 90 minutes, with a combined xG value of just 0.58, reflecting the lack of quality in the final third.

The hosts looked to score further, but with half a chance, Ceri Holland leapt over, and new signing Alice Bergström showed promise on her debut. But the problem remains for Gareth Taylor, with Liverpool still without a win despite playing more than half of their WSL games.

The issue of scoring goals is equally concerning. Liverpool have once again failed to impose themselves properly, averaging 0.6 goals per 90 goals this season, the worst ratio of any team. Unless Taylor is sacked, the risk of relegation will grow with each passing week.
