The Trump administration claims to have canceled more than 300,000 visas issued to foreign nationals at a faster pace than any previous administration.
A U.S. State Department spokesperson said on social media Tuesday that the revocations target foreign nationals in the U.S. whose visas have violated laws, committed fraud, or posed a threat to national security.

“Our country has zero tolerance for foreign nationals whose visas break the law, commit fraud, or jeopardize the security of our country,” State Department spokesperson Tommy Piggott said in a post on social media platform X.
He added that the administration will continue to take steps to secure America’s borders and protect national security.
Al Jazeera has contacted the State Department for comment.
The number of visa cancellations in August exceeded 175,000.
In January, the ministry announced it had canceled more than 100,000 visas, a record at the time.
The administration also adopted stricter policies regarding visa issuance, including increased social media screening and expanded screening.
Rights activists and human rights experts have condemned the Trump administration’s social media screening efforts, saying they threaten free speech and are akin to surveillance and immigration screening.
