After criticizing Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei on his social media sites for pushing to slow the development of the AI industry, President Donald Trump went one step further on Monday.
and Nvidia While CEO Jensen Huang was speaking on stage at the All-In Summit in Los Angeles, Trump called the technology executive, who was later named the speaker.
“I’m telling you, this is all made up,” Trump said, according to a video posted on social media by an attendee. “Data centers are a great thing, they enrich people, they enrich our state.”
President Trump has inserted himself into a heated debate about artificial intelligence and whether model developers, primarily Anthropic and OpenAI, are rapidly building technology that threatens to wipe out humanity. Over the weekend, Amodei published an essay arguing for deliberately slowing down the pace of model development and spoke with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. space x Elon Musk.
Opposition to data center development and concerns about AI have been conflated into the same argument, raising concerns that the technology will take away jobs.
Trump posted a number of posts on Truth Social, including one in which he said people concerned about AI and data centers are “revolutionaries for the cause of good and evil.” In another post, President Trump said there was no need for additional AI regulation and called recent concerns about AI “a hoax” and a “fraud.” He wrote that calls to slow construction are happening only because the United States is leading other countries in building at a faster pace.
After Hwang put Trump on speakerphone on Monday, the president said data centers are “the oil of the next 20, 25 years.”
He also joked that Huang, the CEO of the world’s most valuable company, “can develop the most complex computer chip that no one can imitate, but he doesn’t know how to get me to be a speaker.”
President Trump praised the construction of an AI data center equipped with Nvidia’s graphics processing equipment. Mr. Hwang and Mr. Trump have appeared together in public several times during the president’s second term, but Monday’s phone call further highlighted their tense ties and the centrality of AI to the U.S. economy as other policymakers push for regulation.
“I’m always with you,” Trump told Fan.
Trump said opponents of data center construction are “playing into the hands of a lot of people who don’t want construction to happen,” adding that it could be coming from China.
“We’re not going to allow that to happen,” President Trump said.
“That’s right,” Huang replied. “I won’t allow that, sir.”
“This was surreal,” Chamath Palihapitiya, one of the summit’s co-organizers, posted on X after the session ended, commenting on one of the videos from the summit.
A representative for Nvidia did not respond to a request for comment.
