OpenAI CEO Sam Altman is scheduled to attend President Donald Trump’s state dinner in conjunction with Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to Washington next week, CNBC reported.
Mr. Altman’s expected appearance comes amid a fierce battle in Washington and Silicon Valley over the regulation of artificial intelligence after researchers warned of risks to humans and humanity. humanDario Amodei called for a slowdown in frontier model development.
In this heated debate, Altman and Amodei, unlikely rivals at the AI Institute; tesla and space x CEO Elon Musk opposes President Trump and leaders of big tech companies Nvidiawith jensen fan meta platform CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
AI is likely to be a major topic of discussion when Trump and the Chinese president meet, especially as China’s promiscuous models have improved in performance and are closing the gap with the U.S.’s Frontier Research Institute.
CNBC reported earlier this week that NVIDIA’s Huang will also attend the state dinner.
“President Trump has invited some of America’s greatest business leaders to dinner with President Xi because President Xi always prioritizes getting a good deal for our country,” White House officials said in a statement Wednesday.
