BEIJING – The Chinese artificial intelligence startup that developed the Kimi model announced on Thursday that major companies in the financial industry, including investment banks, funds and venture capital firms, are using its Kimi model in their AI tools.

Among the companies currently using Kimi are investment bank CICC and venture capital firms such as Sequoia China, now rebranded as Hon Shan.

This is part of Thursday’s announcement that Beijing-based Moonshot is launching Kimi for financial services, showing how the AI company is pursuing real-world commercial applications.

Moonshot said Kimi users have direct access to information commonly used for analysis and reporting, thanks to a number of industry data partners such as S&P Global Market Intelligence, Crunchbase, Wind, local financial news leaders, and business database Tianyancha.

The company says you will also have direct access to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s EDGAR system for public company financial filings, as well as the IMF, World Bank, and U.S. Federal Reserve’s Economic Data Site (FRED).

Although users do not need to download a separate interface, testing with Kimi’s mobile app showed that different types of data are available to different users depending on their subscription tier.

Kimi subscriptions start at 49 yuan ($7.31) per month and go up to 699 yuan ($104.23).

“The real tipping point is the combination of stronger AI capabilities and expertise,” Samuel Fischer, head of Deutsche Bank’s Beijing branch, said in a promotional video released by Moonshot on Thursday. “AI companies that can understand real-world financial workflows and provide reliability and data security will be particularly well-positioned to contribute to this transformation.”

“AI can now organize and compare this type of information, identify discrepancies and support initial analysis,” he added.

It was not immediately clear whether Deutsche Bank was a customer. The bank did not respond to requests for comment.

Moonshot’s Kimi K3 model, released in July, competes with models from major American companies.

A Chinese startup has reportedly secretly filed for an IPO in Hong Kong. However, the company said it does not comment on market rumors or speculation.
