SpaceX receives $950 million from NASA for three more crewed flights to the ISS

The flight support award brings SpaceX’s missions under the Commercial Crew Capability Contract to 17 total operational flights and “helps NASA maintain access to the space station with two unique partners in the commercial crew industry,” the space agency said in a statement Friday.

boeing The company is also providing flights to the ISS for NASA via Starliner, with unmanned flights expected to begin in the coming months and crewed missions starting in the third quarter of 2027.

According to NASA, SpaceX will provide “ground, launch, in-orbit, return and recovery operations, cargo transportation for each mission, and lifeboat functions while docked at the International Space Station.”

SpaceX went public in June in the largest IPO in history. The company is counting on government contracts from NASA and the Department of Defense to strengthen its core launch business. Under this contract with NASA, SpaceX will earn $5.92 billion from the space agency.

Crew 13’s launch by NASA’s SpaceX is scheduled for October, and Crew 14 is scheduled to fly next spring. Beyond the NASA flights, SpaceX is also reportedly winding down its Dragon program, which began human flight just six years ago. The company aims to use its Starship rocket, which is still in development, for most future launches.
