shares of Oracle Japan Co., Ltd. Shares soared more than 7% on Friday after the company reported record fiscal first-quarter sales and profits as its cloud business posted strong growth.
The gains in Tokyo contrasted with a more than 3% overnight drop in U.S.-listed Oracle shares after the company issued a “force majeure” notice related to a data center project in New Mexico.

The Japanese company announced Thursday that net sales for the June-August period rose 13% year-on-year to 74.86 billion yen ($472 million) and operating profit rose 22.7% to 25.92 billion yen. Net profit increased by 23.2% to 18.25 billion yen.
The company announced that net sales and all profit items reached record highs for the first quarter.
Cloud sales increased 31.7% year-on-year to 25.14 billion yen, and the percentage of sales rose from 28.8% in the same period last year to 33.6%.
Oracle Japan said demand for cloud infrastructure is driving the use of data centers in Tokyo and Osaka. The company also said it plans to expand its sovereign cloud offering in Japan and strengthen its AI solutions.
The company maintained its full-year forecast for sales growth of 6% to 10%.
In 2024, Oracle has committed more than $8 billion to cloud and AI infrastructure in Japan over 10 years. Softbank deploys sovereign cloud and generative AI services powered by Oracle technology.
