OpenAI is showing momentum in enterprise and consumer businesses, people say
OpenAI is gearing up for what is widely expected to be a major IPO next year. The company, which has a market capitalization of about $1 trillion, confidentially filed a prospectus with the Securities and Exchange Commission in June.
OpenAI’s enterprise business more than doubled in the third quarter, according to people familiar with the details who were not authorized to speak publicly. The company also generated more consumer run-rate revenue in the past 90 days than in all of last year, the people said.
OpenAI’s last revenue run rate was nearly $40 billion in August, CNBC reported.
OpenAI has seen a 70% increase in revenue in the past quarter, with a 20% increase in September alone, the person said. This increase brings OpenAI’s annual revenue run rate to approximately $68 billion.

OpenAI abandons plans to release next model due to safety concerns

OpenAI announced on Monday that it has determined that its next AI model, GPT-6.1 Astra, does not adequately meet the company’s safety standards and has decided not to release it.
“Of course, we want to make sure that our model development is secure, whether we develop it internally or ship it to our users,” Saatchi Jain, head of safety systems at OpenAI, said in a statement. “But when it comes to shipping to users, there are very high hurdles for safety and conditioning.”
Earlier this month, OpenAI released GPT-6 Astra, which the company described as the result of “years of research and big bets.” Last week, OpenAI introduced two additional layers to the GPT-6 family: GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna.
A spokesperson said Monday that the company will launch other models soon.
